David Running for The Children's Society
If you have been into our Fowey shop, you may have heard the tale from Kieron about his success (and the rest of his family’s no such luck) in the ballot for the London Marathon.
After all entering for years, nobody really expected to get in, but when successful entries were announced earlier in the year, Kieron realised he was going to need to start doing some running, and lots of it. David, although feeling left out, was probably secretly relieved, he is not ashamed to admit that running does not come naturally to him.
Fast forward to July, after Kieron had been churning out the miles over the summer, David received a phone call from London Marathon Charity Partner The Children’s Society, who had a space for David to run the marathon. Never one to shy away from a challenge, David accepted, and is now facing the reality of having to train for it!
David started running just before his 50th Birthday. He wanted to get fitter and also lose some weight. This worked, and although as David reiterates, he hates running, he does notice the benefits once a run is done. He needed a new challenge to get him out running, a marathon should do the trick! Kieron and David, along with family, have done many half marathons, but have never run any further. With the Bath half marathon this year being postponed until next March, David had been floundering for motivation, struggling to get out for a 3 mile run, let alone 26.
Supporting a worthy cause is a great way of creating some accountability and sense of purpose. As mentioned, David is running to raise money for The Children’s Society who fight for the hope and happiness of children affected by abuse, exploitation and neglect. Last year the charity directly supported 11,500 children, helping them towards a happier future.
If you would like to read a little more about David’s training journey, or if you would like to support the amazing, and sadly necessary, work of The Children’s Society, as well as David, in running the London Marathon on Sunday 3rd October, then please take a look at David’s just giving page, linked below.
Now for something a little more lighthearted, I have done some detective work, and found some cracking screenshots of photos on Kieron’s Strava account (a running tracker app) which shows the realities of running. Enjoy…
Hopefully you have enjoyed hearing a little about both David and Kieron’s running exploits. We at Brocante are wishing them a huge amount of luck in the run up to and during the London Marathon. Go David and Kieron!!
