Marathon Reflections
A few weeks ago we mentioned the challenge that both David and Kieron were due to undertake, running all 26.2 miles of The London Marathon. Now that they have had chance to catch their breath and (hopefully) their legs have stopped aching, we caught up with them to hear all about it.
Pictured below, Kieron and David collected their race numbers the evening before the Marathon, getting giddy and excited before the start. After a relaxing day walking around Greenwich and taking in the sights, all of a sudden it started to feel real at this point, but there was no going back!
On the day, the runners fueled up with truck loads of porridge for breakfast, before excitedly awaiting the start. During the actual run, David says that the crowds cheered them along the course, and acted as a real spirit lifter. Kieron mentioned how special the setting of the course was; there was always something to view to distract from the huge task of running such a long distance with the iconic London landmarks around every corner.
And action! Surrounded by thousands of other runners, each running for their own causes, motivations and at their own speeds, Kieron said other runners were super encouraging, helping each other along when they could see a fellow athlete running out of steam, given everybody else running were strangers, it shows the power of running at bringing people together. You might think that Kieron and David would have run together, however as somebody who has run alongside Kieron, it must be said that he isn’t the most positive when the running becomes difficult. Hopefully Kieron managed to keep his ‘I hate running’ and fed up grunts, to himself. They did however, meet up briefly during the run as they passed the Cutty Sark.
Kieron and David, pictured here proudly wearing their finisher medals, loved the London Marathon experience so much they have already entered the ballot for next time. Not only was the run a huge personal achievement for them both, thanks to the generosity of friends, family, and you, our lovely customers, David managed to raise a whopping £3091 for the Children’s Society. His JustGiving page is still open for a few more days.
Usually David likes to boast that his quiff stays standing no matter the weather, and throughout running, however in this instance it seems like the quiff did not survive well, he claims it was temporary…
