Tammy's idyllic commute
As promised last week, we are sharing one of the St Ives staff members journey to work. Tammy has put together a lovely account and some stunning photos taken on her morning route to work in the beautiful St Ives - enjoy.
‘Hi I’m Tammy.
As the member of staff who lives the closest to the St Ives store, which is approximately a 3 minute walk, my going to work story should be a dull blog. Actually I’m not claiming that this piece of writing isn’t, but I am going to explain why my routine takes me over an hour to get to work.
I’m an early riser, not a night owl these days, so some mornings start with a walk to see the sunrise and to help me get those 10 thousand steps in each day. I feel so fortunate to be born here. Everyday looks different and a walk always starts my day off just right. Then there’s the usual running around at home to get ready for a seven & a half, or ten & half hour shift this usually takes me to about 8.30am! I’ll then give my husband a 5 minute warning as he comes with me when that’s possible and while he gets ready, all the pots on the balcony get watered.
At last it’s time to go to my favourite coffee shop and hubby and I trek a full minutes walk to get a table or a take away. The table version comes with heaps of local news as Paul, who owns ‘The Yellow Canary cafe’ and I, exchange who did what, when and where! There’s a lot of locals in the cafe pre businesses opening and the banter is great and the coffee fantastic! Sadly I gave up caffeine during lock down, (I do miss it, I cannot lie) so our hot beverage of choice is a healthy Turmeric latte!
Time is cracking on and the next stop is ‘The Allotment deli’ to pick up some lunch enhancements and vegetables for dinner. My dad might have texted me a few bits of shopping too. Here too, there might be a little more ‘catching up’ news exchanged and some compliments thrown around for good measure with Laura, Jane and Teagan. Laura is also known as the St Ives mermaid and raises lots of money for charity’s. She’s pictured below in the shops hatch.
By now, I’ve got to get my skates on, I still have to get to my Dad’s with the shopping, fill his bird feeders for the local equivalent of Trafalgar Sq and water his garden patio. All the news gathered is swiftly passed on, with a promise to return tomorrow but earlier! I hate to be late for anything and must arrive ten minutes before my shift so passing friends in the street is now kept to an ‘Alright’ & the usual reply to that is ‘Yer, you?’ There’s a mutual understanding that 10am is approaching and everyone of working age mustn’t have a yarn until next time.
At last I’m through the door, ready to start another day of chatting (yes, more!) with co workers and customers, and the mantra of telling myself I’m not to buy any of the new stock begins and is forgotten by home time. Here is where I spend my days, laughing, selling, helping with my local knowledge and feeling blessed. How lucky am I? #lovemyjob’.
I am sure you will agree, Tammy has an enviable journey to work, but it is fantastic that she has been able to share some of it with us.
